Is there a way to download these things in advance? The problem is, it gets finished crunching sometime during the night, but it can't download anything else since I am not on an always-on connection.

You can but it's tricky. I should write an article about it. You can "store" WUs as the UD folder is stand alone, so when you have one at 1% and want to keep it for later (ex: overnight) you just need to copy it somewhere else and download another one meanwhile. I have a bunch of UD folders that I keep for this purpose, for when the server goes down and such. It's good to keep a few new installations and you just use that to download new WUs and store them somewhere.
