One of AOV's first servers (speaking of nostalgia)

Post by Red Squirrel »

Did not post this in nostalgia thread as it's not exactly "game" nostalgia but thought it would be interesting to share.

I can't seem to find a pic of the actual first server, and I don't even remember it, but this was one of the first servers it ran from:

This was at my parents house, a pretty terrible setup LOL, but it worked at the time. The white server you see was the backup server. Those are IDE drives, and to swap backups I had to turn the server off to insert a new drive.

This would also have been my main home server, AoV was just a VM on it.

Specs:
Fedora Core 9 64-bit edition
Intel Core2Quad 6700 @ 2.66Ghz
8GB of OCZ ram
OS drive: 250GB
Data drive: 3x 1TB Drives in software raid 5 configuration - total of 1.8TB of space

Interestingly, that server hardware is still in operation today and I'm only migrating stuff off it now. Otherwise it's mostly running as is. It runs my home email, some web based stuff, DNS, and a few other services. I have more servers now running other stuff.

I need to dig up way more info when I get the chance but I will try to put together a history of AoV's server time line.
