AFK resource gathering

Just a heads up I'm debating on wether or not this will be illegal. For now it's not (and releasing pets on AFK macrowers is also not illegal

) but if you do AFK resource gather keep an eye out for if I change this rule.

If I do make it illegal, the penalty would probably involve [adding a couple mean monsters, or [kicking. I will avoid jailing for now since I have yet to code a jail timer system and thats not on the priority list.

red you are gonna make a lot of work for yourself if you try to eliminate afk gathering. Its not something that I do, but I really have no opinion one way or the other on it.

If you make one resourse illegal, then people are gonna say "why is gathering that resource illegal and not gathering bods, etc?". There are also a couple VERY talented script writers that play on the shard. If you are having a problem with how one of these guys is getting items, it would probably be a lot less trouble to just talk to him and work something out.

Yeah thats why I'm debating it. I don't want to make something illegal if it only gives me more work and if I can't enforce it. Like the easyuo thing on demise, they made it illegal but have trouble even enforcing it and only the ones who are willing to break the rules get to use it now. If someone finds a way (which I'm sure has already been done) to get playuo to work, they can't enforce that either. Rather hard to prove something like that.

I rather just make it harder to afk resource gather then make it illegal, if someone finds a way around it, then good for them.

Randomized spawners also help. Like a spawner that's all liches, then suddently it decides to spawn a vampire or a balron.

well waht if we do it on accident.. alot of us have annoying parents that every 5 seoncds need us to do some thing and can last for a while. some times i have a problem with it my self, i say ill brb 5 hours later im back (exaderating) but its a pain in the ass

Well I if it does go illegal I won't be as strict as demise on it. at worse I'll probably just [kick which just disconnects you, and I'd give a chance to actually see me, like doing it for 5-10 minutes would not be bad.

But I've been thinking this further and I don't think I'll make it illegal, it will just be considered risk vs reward since you might hit a spawner thats random (if afk resource gathering involves monsters) and get a real nasty monster, or if it's mining, someone else might decide to release a pet, etc... But from a rules point of view it will probably stay legal. If I see it being an economic problem I rather put a mechanism in place to stop it, then make it illegal and try to bust people all the time.

why not just make a message where u hit like [afkmacroer than click someone if they hit yes that they are there than they dont get kicked if they dont answer in 10 minutes they get kicked.

The reason to implement control over afk resource gathering is to balance the economy. If somebody can gain 8 AOA's during an afk session, then what's the point in playing really? The game isn't always about gaining the most items/arties. That's why we've created the new mobs and new items and new systems to get a variety of new things to do. Just wait till we get a working quest system how much there will be to do in the game. As seer, I will be ocasionally going around and watching people play to see where they hunt, what they like doing etc so that I can provide new spawners and a wider variety of things to do in the game so everyone isn't sitting at luna bank wondering what to do.

I do whats told and still get banned. I read AFK is ok if only one resource or arty gatherer per IP. I made a guy to hunt and collect. (I only want 3 things. Grim Reaper -- Ring of the dead -- and arms of perfection.) Once I get those I plan to be done. WHen you changed it to having to move 10 spaces I took a week off. Then just made one to move me around and went back to work. Then you started spawning ancient liches in with my frineds the Deamons and You did not hear me complain. I asked for a trade in told you I would trade 10 to 15 lessers for a greater. So I dont have to script. I dont trade items unless I am trying to get 1 of the three that I want. So don't blame me for destroying your economy that does not exist. People cant even sell things here because no one needs anything. I want three things but since I still have a chance of getting them I can wait. When you only play 1 hour a day. I want to play the game not try and collect an item. If i want an item I could work AFK at getting it. Hell I started throwing lesser AOAs on the ground because I am only after 3 things. Lancifer asked me to stop throwing them out several times. He told me to save for him or save for this casino thingy. I don't care what you do just help me out and I will quit AFK gathering. Or hell just ask me to stop. But how is it OK to gather ore or lumber AFK but gathering worthless AOA's is WRONG!

Seems every time I turn around today someone is pissing me off. That is why I am here on forum ranting. Started with this game. When I got up I check pack and only two lesser AOA's not 8 like Bartok stated. both crappy I tossed them. (I am pretty certain someone is removing them from my pack.) but anyway.... I notice new spawns in my favorite spot and head off to work. I make the hour long drive here leaving at 5am. Getting to work and then check e-mails. I get a message from I other job stating I need to send stats in an email and not print them off and leave at work. With a 500 word essay attached stating how much work it is to have to imput the numbers from my shifts. blah blah (idiots) I have a note attached to print out stating you can find this file saved on your desktop. So why are they so stupid that they cant open the saved file and copy into new one. Is it just me or is that what you do when it is sent attached to an e-mail. Then school starts and I have students complaining about having to dissect a pig today. Also I have students in Physics complaining that I am having them make kites as a lab or break from all the math of normal class. THen as a refuge I log in here to check things out during my free period to see people complaining about my AFK 3 item hunting script I wrote. I took the time to design a script to hunt with stealth check for character and re-hide if I am showing then feed my mangy mutt and keep it happy so I can try for my 3 missing items. ALL I WANT is a little refuge a place of solitude where I can escape from my three sons and work for an hour a day and I get hassled all the dang time.

Hell I have brought three friends over from OSI and Demise this week alone. I told them this place is the bomb no one banning you for every stupid a** thing like demise and Great Lakes (OSI). I even bragged about how the Admin stated in a post it was ok to AFK resource here if limited to one person per ISP. I have brought over several others from demise like Rahl -- AKA-- James -- AKA-- LAdy Erin and others people who now enjoy playing the game again.

Well enough ranting people just get a grip. And leave us alone please. We follow your rules we don't cause trouble we don't bother no body. We are just a few fellows that rock the mic.... If Red ever opens his casino or hand trades me three greaters for a boat load of lessers I would not macro.

I did not state that you gained 8 aoa's, I was using a hypothetical case. Also, afk resource gathering is not yet considered illegal as red stated in his first post:

He's just making everyone aware that this might be a possibility in the future. Who knows, maybe when the casino is put in, the anti resource gathering idea will be dropped.

Keep in mind that the casino itself is not the easiest thing to code as there are a lot of things to keep in mind to ensure that the code isn't exploitable and that the code doesn't cause crashes to the server.

Guess I should have read this before I posted, now I probably look like a suspect.

Tom's my buddy, so I wouldn't do anything to him. I went to his afk'er for a bit this morning, and each time I did he was already dead, him and his cu with a couple Demons sitting by him. I was going to res him, but figured he was afk, so I didn't bother.

The only stuff I've done today as first day as a seer is screw around with some commands to see how stuff works. Changed some spawners near the Orc Fort, and then changed them right back after that. Just to see what values do what. And I was with Brunus the whole time, so he can vouch for me there.

I went to gauntlet too, and played around with my Ki-Rins stats, and let him fight some of the bossess there. Anything I got though i deleted since it was kind of cheating. Also did some SSI testing stuff with Hector.

That pretty much sums up my first day with Seer powers. Nothing illegal that I'm aware of.

And everyone keep in mind, I started hearing stuff about emachine before I even made him seer. So I don't know who, but someone is making up pure bullshit for w/e reason. How could he have got to kill blood beast paragon with his seer when he was not even made seer yet? Someone please tell me that. I found that one out 5-10 minutes after I made him seer and he was with me the whole time.

Toying around with gaunt/pets and stuff as staff it's not illegal as long as nobody else is around (or it would interfeer with them) and that you do not have one of your characters logged in near that area to benefit from it. Though stuff of that nature is best done on the test shard to avoid any possible conflicts. I refresh it often enough as well and can do it on request using the latest daily backup.

And as for AFK resource gathering, like I said before, it's not illegal and probably won't be and it's a risk vs reward. Just don't blame staff or anyone else if you end up dead if a monster kills you but STAFF IS NOT ALLOWED to kill you or purposely change a spawner while you're there but do take note since spawners can be changed at times it just cannot be done if someone is around.

Lot of spawners are randomized so it may spawn 20 imps then decide to spawn a vampire. (there's actually one like that somewhere I think) So it is risk vs reward and you even risk loosing your pet if the server needs to reboot outside of normal hours and it wanders around without food.

Mining and such is probably less of a risk, but some mines have mobs near them and such and theres the risk of accidentally bringing a gargoyle pck axe which I've actually done on demise once when I made an easyuo rail script with GM detection system built in. I forgot to add in valorite elemental detection to it.

i think afk arty grabbing shouldnt be legal hell i only get about maybe an hour a day to play and u dont see me running afk macros to get arties.. could i? yes. but it ruins the point what so ppl can just afk and get arties while i work for mine with my game time... its not fun sitting there working to get them its quite boring but i have to to suit my chrs..

resource grabbing afk is also pretty lame i mean u get it for free when ur not around than players who have barley any time like me have to waste it using my time to fight monsters to harvest and mine sitting there.

afk gathering should be illegal the game wasnt meant for it..

thats why its called third party programs.

Followed by a link to download razor then it is not a third party program it is the recomended method of playing on the shard.

You can make a razor macro do some kick A** things. I have not made scripts for easy uo in a year. But I use razor macros everyday.

Unless you can decompile and recompile the client, you need razor to connect, so it's not really considered a 3rd party program in this case. Without razor the client will be encrypted and not work with the server.

If you are referring to my house, I would like to point out that everything on there has been collected thanks to my hard work. Not a single item up there was gained while afk.

Oh, and btw I am a software automation engineer by trade. I have over 10 years experience automating all kinds of different programs, so if I wanted to I could make the meanest scripts anyone has ever seen. I wouldn't even have to use razor, I could use an enterprise-level GUI automation tool using bitmap comparisons if need be. But to me that would not be fun, it would be.... work

I say stop complaing most houses you see are from people with over 60 days on thier accounts. Red has made a lot of needed changes to the game.

There was no need to AFK for a major before the changes you could run 1 coon and get 9 AOA's. You could use a grim strike and solo champ after champ without ever unhidding. You could collect 50 to 60 a day if you wanted. I had originally thought about scripting a macro to double click grim preaper with a 2 minute delay and invoke valor on alter ever ten minutes. This while hidding on the alter would have worked like a bomb. But did not do it.

However I know for a fact that many people have done this in fact Red had to reboot the server one day because 2 groups of people were doing the grim reaper champ thingy.

When you were on during valentines day which i missed all but the last hour of you could get alot of random arty deeds which also produce greaters since random means any of the artifacts.

SO to assume that everyone with arties AFK's is nutty. I know that I do but have never ran across anyone else doing it and I look all the time because I am like that.

Once I add in the roulette I expect the number of unused arties to go down. The roullette will accept any tot, greater tot, AoA, greater AoA, minor arty, and even doom artys. They will be scaled by type (not by arty) and give a chance to receive a greater or a lesser AoA and a few other random prizes like reg bags and the 5kk jackpot. Though the real prize people will want is the greater AoAs as it will be the only way to get them.

So basically people will be able to turn their piles of 50 duplicates into possibly a couple greater AoAs.

Heck the roulette will even take your orny.

I never said these ppl afk macro.

But afk harvesting period shouldnt be legal.

To sit there and tell the shard fourms that you afk macro for minor aoas in hope of getting greaters... if i was a new player id be like wtf thats gay.

So it makes the shard look bad.

WHen RULE #7 says you are allowed one AFK resource bot or artifact bot you are allowed one BOT.

Just because you don't do it does not mean its HAPPY OR FUN (AKA- GAY)

WHen I was in ANGOLA L.S.P. --- people where in there for every thing under the sun. Murder, drugs, ..... Just because they killed someone does not mean you have to do it. But if they make pot legal. More people would do it. Alot of people do it now because they want to. Its fun! Its a risk! They could get caught! They could go to Jail! They could get shot!

But they do it for what ever reason they want. I AFK IN FEL because it is fun. I could get killed. I could have all those AOA's stolen. THat is fun for me. You are the one complaining about what others do or don't do. Yes I told you point blank I do it because any thing Red decides to do will increase my risk of getting banned. I like it here I have brought many people here and hell most of my guild switched here before I did. So to go find another server today is silly.

I enjoy macroing! Hell I made a macroto run me from luna bank to blood dungeoun because I am that lazy. I stand by the trash can in luna hit play and run all the way there with out hitting a key because I can.

You could spend time making things to do things you do often and save time. BUt you either don't know how or don't want to. So does making a macro that runs me around town wrong. NO!!!!!!!!!!

Making macros has always been around. I have played on OSI since BETA in 1997. I was making macros before easy uo was created. I still use easy uo on OSI and it has been bannable since just six months after it was created. I told people in the game that I macroed I have been banned on every OSI server. I use the 14 day trial period make a new account and macro non stop to gm magery then hand my guy an LRC suit and mined non stop until it gets banned. I had another account empty the ore from the 7x7 house each day so I only lost valorite the day the account was banned.

I am sure there are things in real life that each of you do that you know you should not do. (Ex. speeding, not stoping at the stop sign completely....) You do it because you are willing to take the punishment for your actions. I am the same way if you read every post. I have stated if you want me to stop tell me.
