Thinking of dumping the trivia section

The trivia script is very badly coded, it was actually ported directly from the old cybervillage and even uses the original file database. It also has a few flaws which would enable someone to well, get a bit too much ICs too easily.

Rewriting it would involve doing so nearly from scratch, and I dont have time these days so I'm thinking of just dumping it, as it does not seem to get used all that much.

Figured I'd post in advance in case someone wants to kill me for this decision, so at least I can be killed before it happends that way everyone wins. (well maybe not me)

Haha. Actually we're learning javascript and never really bothered with that, but you can in fact do some interesting stuff with it. I should make use of it and make things more interactive. Though it would be limited in the sense I can't depend on data generated client side, so I think I better stick with server side php.

I'd like to see a whois section, where you could type in something like: "1, 1" and it tells you who owns that piece of land or business etc.

also I think that a proper trading place would be good so members could get together there and trade stuff they own or sell it on for an agreed price e.g if I own a piece of land you want and you own a piece of land I want then I could request a trade and it could come up in the messages section and you could ever select "yes" or "no" and then it would happen automatically...

just ideas...I did think of trying to exploit the trivia section but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

got to go and rob furball now...

Actually a trading section could be cool. I could set it up as an auction system so you put up a peice of land, business, item, etc and people can bid on it, or I could make it so you just set a price and people make offers and you then confirm.

A whois section would be easy enough to make, I could make it so you can do it on land, or a user. so if you put in a user it tells you everything about that user. It could cost like 500 ICs per query or something.

I think reward items would be a cool thing to have. Reward items for like 1000 posts or items like "squirrel snow globe" people can get at christmas time. These items cannot be stolen, but can be traded or sold or something. Would also be cool if these items were represented as little icons and show up on the member's signature everytime they post (Would be a neat way to show seniority at the forums instead of having to go to the callender to see how long a certain person has been posting here). I would certainly go for the poker idea

Yeah, like artifacts. Would in fact be cool. I was thinking of having a reward system as well, so I could impliment it like that by adding a new category called rewards or artifacts which have a picture associated and show up in posts as "Rewards: 2" then you click and see the rewards. I'd have to setup a way so we can vote who can receive a reward, like have a crazy squirrel award, or criminal reward, etc.

. Ya, I think that would be cool. We could have decorative artifacts like 1000 post reward, 1 year member rewards and so on. Then we could even have contests and such (Like that iceteks wallpaper one) where a member can get a special reward that does something in the forum (Like, one JAIL FREE tile bomb in the cybervillage) Or a 1 day rob protection card

Yeah I'll have to think up an award type system and see how it can integrate with the cybervillage as well. I also have to come up with a way to organize items, like make it so you can buy storage space and store items, and maybe even put a limit on carrying so it would make people have to put them somewhere, then I could impliment a steal feature to rob storage areas. It would be a new type of business as people could start a storage business then charge per item being stored. Not per month or anything though. But award type items would not be stealable.

lol yeah, so you can declare bankrupt and it brings you back to 0 by sacrificing all your items and businesses, or something along those lines.

hmm not a bad idea actually. So if you own a bank, then all the money goes bye bye as well then you get mad clients.

hey sintekk- If you issue 1000 shares costing 10000 IC's each then I will buy them from you and you will get the IC's and be out of debt and have a bit of money to play around with, but only 1000 at a time as that's the maximum I can buy at once and I don't like my shares page to get messy.

Nah, man, it's ok, I don't really do the IC thing, I just like attempting to rob the bank barehanded every once in a while

I think that if there's a limit to how many messages a person's inbox can hold then users can make "0" donations constantly to get rid of any valid messages which they don't want the other user to see e.g "Member X has robbed your bank"...a bit like a mail bomb...easy to cover tracks, but I'm not that mean.

Nah that would not work, though it would make the page super long to load.
