First I'll start with inside the building. There's also a radio tower for communication, some radios are for backup while some are for specific purposes. There's a small building beside it (like any other typical tower you would see) and the equipement is inside.
This is the frequency filters for a specific radio. All it is is the waves going in it, and it is set to only let a specific size go through, there's no electronics or anything, it's just a practically empty can! There's one for Transmit and one for receive. They need to filter at different frequencies so they can use the same dish for both TX and RX (much cheaper!).

This is the fibre driver. All the data goes from this place (which is out in the bush) to the main central office where it goes through other equipement like the DEX or whatever else it needs to go through. (pictures of a DEX will be shown tomorow in a seperate thread)

This is battery equipement, and in the background it's the actual batteries. I'll get some pictures of bigger batteries tomorow. This, I believe, is what distributes the current to all the equipement.

This is the equipement for the microwave dish that provides long distance service to peawanuk, a place even more north of where I live (yes, north actually gets that far )

This is a giant generator that can keep the place running for a long time in case of a power failior. Some offices run 24/7 on similar generators, expecially in the north, it's isolated areas in the bush. There's these big tanks that can last a whole year, we have to remotely fill smaller tanks when they empty (an alarm pops up on the SCADA system). Not sure how long this can run for, probably a few days, if you notice the tank in the back.

This is a pump/compressor that pumps air into the cables, I think it's like 2 psi or something, just enough so that if there's a cut undergroud, it will avoid water and moisture from going in. The pump is specially designed so that when it looses pressure, it kicks in until it's at the right pressure. It's right in the same room as the generator.

This is the microwave dish. It sends waves in space to a satilite which bounces off and goes to another dish up north. That place actually has two dishes, A and B, that way if one fails the other one takes over.

This is the "inside" of the dish. It's the actual microwave driver. Notice the foil, it's to shield the wires since a local radio station was interfeering with it! That's just standard foil, too. High tech stuff or what!
Well this is it for the M/W centre, I'll post another thread tomorow for the actual telecom central office. I'll try to get the telephone switches and everything as well.

I got the pictures for the telecom office, I won't start an other thread but I will write my tour article shortly. I'll make sure to gather as many news@ emails of tech sites to make sure it gets around. I'm sure people will be interested in that. ...and possibly join us afterwards.
