I wanted something that can run my server equipment for hours, not minutes. So I found an inverter-charger on ebay (made by Tripp Lite) and bought a couple batteries:
I may be adding more as they are so cheap for the power they give. The current setup as is will run 300w for about 5 hours. I did not hook it up to my production stuff yet, I still need to do some changes such as get some kind of battery enclosure. Thinking a Tupperware container with some vents cut into it. A hydrogen sensor is also a great idea for piece of mind.

Yep when the power is on, it keeps the battery topped up, like a regular trickle charger, when the power goes out, it immediately switches to battery/inverter just like a UPS.
